Technology seems to be making life easier in pretty much every area. Whether it’s ordering food, doing the shopping or even playing games, everything can be done on an app. And our homes are no different.

If you’re weighing up whether to embrace or upgrade to the full electronic life, we’ve done the hard yards for you and compiled a list of reasons to plug in.

  1. Definitely more convenient. You can control everything from one single device (or give multiple people control), and there’s a huge amount of customisation available.
  2. Be notified if there’s trouble at home. You can set up notifications if certain barriers are breached or if systems go down.
  3. Ensure your home is as secure as possible. Home automation means you can arm and disarm alarms remotely, if there are cameras, you can access them from your smart device so you can keep an eye on things, and if the doorbell rings, you can manage it even if you’re not at home.
  4. Energy savings. When everything can be put on a timer, you can ensure you are using your technology as efficiently as possible. It also means you can pre-heat or pre-cool the home before you return, so it’s the optimal temperature, and close or open your window coverings whenever you want from wherever you want.
  5. The kids can be involved. Let’s face it, the younger the generation, the better at technology. Having a smart home means the kids can be in control of things (to an extent, obviously). From keyless entry to controlling their own lights, it’s practical and fun.
  6. Simple ease. Being able to open and close window coverings, turn on appliances from your bed (hello, morning coffee), turn the television volume down from the next room and never carry keys, home automation will make your life much, much easier. Trust us.

Something to think about

We wouldn’t be good friends if we didn’t say these two things: installation of a fully automated home system can be a significant cost, and if the internet goes down, so does your house.

But you can invest over time, and use that data to tell you how you might step up your investment in tech – your energy savings from timer switches might inspire you to think about automated blinds for warmth and cooling.

Everything from doorbells and locks through to lights, doors and window coverings can be automated, and let’s face it, whatever makes your life easier is a win in every book!
